JHU Bayview Medical Center IR Suite
North Point Builders was the General Contractor to renovate a single plane imaging room in the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center (JHBMC). Medical imaging is essential to the Healthcare industry as it provides advancements in patient care. Inherently, the imaging equipment has a life-span and must be updated regularly due to wear and tear, and technology developments.
The JHBMC single plan imaging room project was an interior renovation of the 730 SF Angioplasty imaging and control room. The existing finishes and MEP systems were demoed, replaced, and upgraded throughout the space. A Unistrut support system was provided for the new medical imaging equipment. New casework, doors, frames, hardware, and ceilings were installed. North Point Builders upheld standard medical construction requirements by utilizing lead-lined drywall, lead-lined hollow metal frames, and lead-lined glazing.
The North Point Builders Project Team complied with the Coordinated Life Assurance Safety Program (CLASP) and Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) requirements as the construction area was located in a fully occupied and operational hospital.
Special Qualities
This project was underway when the COVID-19 pandemic emerged. Because the imaging room being renovated was located in an occupied and operational hospital, adjacent to the emergency department, North Point Builders worked collaboratively with JHBMC to modify our logistics to adapt to the continuously changing needs of the hospital.
Due to the CDC social distancing guidelines, work in this very small area was unable to be completed per original manpower requirements. NPB maintained the project schedule by working 24-hour shifts in lieu of the prior night work schedule. By directly coordinating with JHBMC, we were able to safely and successfully complete the project.
